hand-embossed lucky red envelopes, inspired by the ingredients of ramen.
With 9 days notice, my young ramen chef cousin @chefjoshr reached out to me for a piece of art to add to his themed ramen kit series. This month was centered around oxtail, an ode to 2021’s lunar calendar zodiac animal, the ox. 🐮

I hand-carved noodle-y lines into a linoleum block, waving in & out of a soft-boiled egg, a slice of meat, and niú (牛), the Chinese character for ox.
Each envelope is embossed with gold powder, numbered, and heated to harden into that classic red envelope shine. Here’s a quick behind the scenes of how it’s made, enjoy!

Thanks to Josh for bringing me on board with @goodneighborsoupco it’s exciting to start to work on more projects with my creative family, especially around food, a space that feels second nature to us.
